Most small businesses I talk to think their social media problem is a posting problem.
They're not posting often enough. Or consistently enough. Or on the right platforms.
But in most cases, that's not actually the issue.
The real problem is the content itself.
More Posts Won't Fix a Strategy Problem
Here's what I see a lot: a business posts three times a week, keeps it consistent for a month or two, and still sees no real return. No enquiries. No new clients. Just a growing archive of posts that didn't really land.
When that happens, the instinct is often to post more. Or try a new platform. Or switch up the visuals.
But if the content isn't connecting with people, doing more of it just creates more noise.
What "Better Content" Actually Means
Better content isn't about higher production value or more creative captions. It's about having a clear purpose behind what you're putting out.
Every piece of content you post should be doing at least one of three things:
Building trust. Helping people understand who you are, what you stand for, and why you're worth paying attention to. This is behind-the-scenes content, your story, your values - the human side of the business.
Showing proof. Demonstrating that you're good at what you do. Client results, testimonials, finished work, real examples. This is what turns interest into enquiry.
Providing value. Giving your audience something useful - a tip, a perspective, an answer to a question they already have. This keeps people engaged even when they're not ready to buy.
When your content is consistently doing those three things, it starts to work. Not because you've cracked the algorithm, but because you're giving people a genuine reason to pay attention.
The Shift Worth Making
Instead of asking "how often should I post?", start asking "what should each post actually do?"
If you can answer that question for every piece of content before it goes out, you're already ahead of most businesses online.
It doesn't take more posts. It takes more intention.
Where to Start
Look at your last nine Instagram posts. For each one, ask yourself: is this building trust, showing proof, or providing value?
If most of them don't clearly fit any of those categories - that's the gap worth addressing.
Not the volume. The direction.
If you're not sure where your content currently stands, feel free to get in touch. I offer a free content audit - a quick look at what you're currently posting and where it could be working harder for your business.
